The Hallways Are Almost Ready
Drive down Kreymer Lane between Brown Street and Mossy Oak Lane on any given weekday right now and the scene is easy to read: construction crews are working through punch-list items, parking lot striping is fresh, and the kind of institutional quiet that only exists before a building fills with students hangs over both campuses. Hampton Intermediate and Parker Junior High are not quite schools yet — but in a little more than two weeks, they will be.
Students across Wylie ISD return to class on Thursday, August 13, and both campuses are scheduled to receive their first students on that same morning.
What These Buildings Represent
The two campuses were funded through the district’s 2023 voter-approved Growth Management Bond, a package the community backed to keep pace with one of the fastest-growing corridors in Collin County. The price tags reflect the scale of the undertaking: Hampton Intermediate came in at approximately $56.9 million, while Parker Junior High carries a cost of roughly $79.4 million.
Those are not abstract numbers to Wylie families who have watched enrollment climb steadily year after year. Existing intermediate and junior high campuses have absorbed that growth for years. These two additions are the district’s answer to a problem that has been visible in crowded hallways and portable classrooms for several enrollment cycles.
Hampton Intermediate
Hampton Intermediate will serve the grade band between elementary and junior high — the years when kids are transitioning from the relatively sheltered environment of a neighborhood elementary school to something bigger and more complex. A purpose-built facility gives the district room to design spaces around how that age group actually learns and moves through a day, rather than adapting older infrastructure.
Parker Junior High
Parker Junior High lands at the other end of that transition, serving students heading toward high school. Junior high is where schedules become period-based, electives start to matter, and the social architecture of secondary school takes shape. Having a new building means the district was not constrained by the layout decisions of a campus designed a generation ago.
The Kreymer Lane Corridor
Both campuses sharing the same stretch of Kreymer Lane is a deliberate clustering that mirrors how other Wylie ISD campus pairs already operate in different parts of the city. Families with kids at different grade levels can consolidate drop-off and pickup logistics, and the district can share support resources across the two buildings more efficiently.
For the neighborhood surrounding that corridor — an area that has seen significant residential development — having walkable or short-drive access to both an intermediate and a junior high campus on a single road is a practical upgrade that will shape daily routines for years.
A District That Has Been Building Momentum
The school openings arrive during a stretch in which Wylie ISD has been accumulating recognition on the academic and arts side as well. The district’s Theatre Arts program at Wylie High School earned Exemplary status from the Texas Educational Theatre Association for the fourth consecutive year in 2026. The district’s visual art program was named a Texas Art Education Association District of Distinction for the third year running. New buildings tend to get the headlines, but they are arriving in a district that has been investing in program quality alongside physical infrastructure.
What Happens Between Now and August 13
For most Wylie families, the next two weeks mean back-to-school shopping, schedule reviews, and figuring out which of the new campuses their child will attend. For the crews still working on Kreymer Lane, it means finishing what they started — making sure that when a few hundred students walk through those front doors on a Thursday morning in August, everything is ready.
